I realised, as I was videoing our walk through the woods yesterday, that whenever I take you for a walk it is always through the woods. But the other joy of Hampstead Heath is its open spaces, so I set off to walk you across some of the rolling parkland. However, just as we nearing the boating pond, my phone cut out and I thought I had lost the video, but it appears not – but I do apologise for the rather abrupt end!

That was yesterday when we had sun we also had clouds and a breeze. Today the breeze vanished and the temperature rocketed up – so the hillside was littered with bodies with sun cream lotion being liberally applied.
Yet across the path from the boating pond, peace reigned with, in the far distance, a cormorant on his perch in the middle of the pond.
On my way back I passed the water fountain at the bottom of the path up to Kenwood which was providing endless fun for the boys. But, having scooped up all the mud, this little girl didn’t seem too sure what to do with it….
And finally, because it was really rather oppressively hot, I took the shady path which runs up beside the railings which separate Kenwood grounds from the rest of the heath – and peered over the railing just to make sure that the house was still there – although you can scarcely see it because the sun was so bright .
