Welcome to our new Walks on Hampstead Heath blog. Dedicated to our walks on the heath but also to gardens (both mine and others) and with the occasional guest appearance from Boris and Arwen – seen here fraternising on our scaffolding balcony.
When I moved to Highgate back in February, one of the treats I had promised myself was breakfast at the Kenwood café – a short 10 minutes walk from my new house. But sadly, when I moved I found that the café was closed for refurbishment – and then there was lockdown. So I was very happy to discover a couple of weeks ago that they were open once more and, if not serving a full breakfast, you could at least get a bacon filled croissant and coffee.
Despite the grey clouds and icy wind that hit us around lunchtime today, early morning was brilliantly sunny if still somewhat brisk. So I decided to treat myself to that bacon filled criossant. But on the way I was thinking about the original purpose of this blog – to allow people who, for whatever reason, could not get out to walk themselves to be able to pretend that they were doing so through my screen. And it occurred to me that, much though you might all like walking through the trees or sitting beside the ponds, you might also like to go to a café!
So, while I was chomping through my croissant I took this short video of my fellow breakfasters in Kenwood café garden. The way things are going at the moment we had better enjoy this now – who knows for how much longer…
Anyhow, once my fellow breakfasters had finished I am sure many of them will have set off for a good brisk walk along the terrace in front of the house and then off into the woods.
