Summer’s last fling

09/14/2021 //  by Michelle//  Leave a Comment

As I look out on the torrential rain this morning, last week’s two days of summer seem a very long time a go. Anyhow, proof that they did exist, around the boating pond at least. But even then that grey cloud was already hovering.

Anyhow, I also made the best of the two days and, realising that I had not taken you on a walk for ages, here are a couple of short and moderately sunny walks. Nothing hugely exciting I am afraid but in the dog days of summer the heath is just looking a bit tired. Very soon (although we may not all be that glad to see them) autumnal colours will start to appear and life on the heath will start to change again.

Meanwhile, one bit of news for those of you who remember Olivia and Wildwooders over on the heath extension. Olivia, who is only ten, was campaiging to improve the playground on her bit of the heath and to raise money for new equipment she was making and selling blackberry jam. After some to-ing and fro-ing, they have now got the necessary permits, have finalised the design for new playground – and are a good few thousands in on their fundraising target. Check out her website if you want to know more – or buy some very tasty Hampstead Heath blackberry jam.
