Jackson’s Lane Christmas Day gifts appeal

12/15/2023 //  by Michelle//  Leave a Comment

Readers who live in or around Highgate will no doubt have heard of Jackson’a Lane Community and Arts Centre – and about their Christmas lunch. For the last 45 years, from its earliest days as a church, Jackson’s Lane has hosted over 100 older people who would otherwise be alone for Christmas lunch – and delivered another 100+ hampers to those who cannot leave their homes.

A huge amount of care and thought goes into the organisation of the day. Individual guests’ dietary needs and preferences are ascertained and catered for, gifts are bought and wrapped, local school children make Christmas cards. Local companies contribute food and funds, Highgate School lends crockery and cutlery and an army of volunteers descends on Jackson’s Lane for a four day period. And an amazing time is had by all! To hear comments from guests, volunteers and the organisers, check into their Instagram account.

Amazon gift list – are you up for buying a gift?

A lot of money was raised for the event over the Big Giving spree earlier this month but they are still struggling to get enough gifts for all the guests – they have over 100 but need 300 in total.

To make getting them as easy as possible they have set up an Amazon gift list.  All you need to do is log in, choose a gift and buy. Job done! There are about 20 to choose from, most under £15, many under £10, including mugs, games sets, hot water bottle covers, rugs, booster seat cushions, calendars and a cactus growing set!

I am afraid that you will then have to either forward your gift or drop it off to Jackson’s Lane (269a Archway Road, N6 5AA – just opposite Highgate tube station) marked ‘Christmas Lunch gift’ – or you could drop it here at 33 Hampstead Lane next week and I will deliver.

Just one would be brilliant – if you could run to a couple – fantastic!  And they will be very much appreciated.  Thank you!!
