More bark, more birds – and lots of wind

06/28/2020 //  by Michelle//  Leave a Comment

Sheltering from the winds in the woods this afternoon, I happened upon some rather stunning tree bark. The first one is, I think, an elderly birch…

..but I have no idea about number two….

…or, come to that, bark three – except that I can see a a small and well disguised lizard running up it…

A bit further on there were a couple of birds in full song. Since the spring courting season has morphed into summer, they have not been so much in evidence so it was lovely to hear them again.

(If you want to see the videos you will need to click onto the blog as the email notification does not include the video.)

Emerging onto the open heath, the wind was certainly ‘going it’ – and I apologise  that my phone picks up far too much of the sound.

However, the winds had certainly driven the hordes off the heath. Who would believe that this was the same boating pond that was so jammed with bodies a few days ago that you could not see the grass.

My daily blog now has an Instagram account! WalksonHampsteadHeath – the idea being to widen the circle of people who might enjoy a daily ramble across the heath. Please follow us and pass on the news!!
