I am quite sure that, when I walked down to the heath yesterday, this chestnut tree was not in flower – and now look at it!!
I swear that they have all come out within the last 24 hours…

And look how stunning they are…..

And just down the bottom of that meadow, the blackthorn was also bursting its buds.

Admittedly it was late afternoon by the time I went out so the blossoms had all day in the full sun. Even so, that was quick work!
The early evening on the heath these days is rather like joining the paseo. Small groups of two, or two and a couple of children, or, even more often, two and a dog – ‘taking the air’ – nodding and smiling at each other, with the occasional ‘hello’ or ‘good evening’.
So here is an early evening walk – down one of my favourite paths which ends up at the ‘climbing tree’ – a path that I think I took you up a few days ago as I remember pointing out that stunning yellow bush.

Oh what a lot of pollen xx Jacquie
What beautiful flowers in that chestnut tree. They really do look like candles. I think the blossom is Haqthorn or May blossom rather than blackthorn. And the brilliant yellow bush looks like gorse. Thank you for sharing your walk.
Oh dear yes – you are so right Jacquie – so frustrating when they are so beautiful.
I thought it was probably gorse, Emma – although the flower looked slightly different to what I thought gorse looked like…. May blossom makes sense – there are so many similar hedgerow bushes that it is really hard to tell.
It’s just a guess from what is flowering now. There are many more cultivars than I could possibly keep up with. I am as fascinated by the rhythm of the seasons as I am by the flower forms. It gives a wonderful sense of grounding.
