With good reason, many people regard the foodsmatter.com offices as a charmed place – an endless supply of delicious freefrom goodies to taste and review – and, for much of the time, that is indeed the case. But we do go through periods of drought… And holiday time has been one of those! Not a single gluten-free biscuit or cake to go with our morning coffee – and forced to fall back on the Rizopia brown rice fusilli (we could have done a lot worse!!) the winners of last year’s FreeFrom Food Awards Pasta award for lunch.
But, with the arrival of September, things have looked up! Last week brought us an amazing dairy, gluten and wheat free quiche from Mamma Cucina which, despite excluding all of the ingredients that you would expect of find in a quiche, tastes really quiche-like and very nice!
It also brought us Kent & Fraser’s biscuits – six flavours (one savoury – Stilton and Walnut – and six sweet) which were really excellent – home made looking and tasting, and gluten, wheat, egg and soya free. Plus a collection of It’s Nut Free cereals, cereal bars and nibbles – satisfactorily main stream but, comfortingly for nut allergics, guaranteed nut free.
Also nut free were Eskal’s amazing ‘FreeNut’ nut-free alternative peanut butter and satay sauce based on sunflower seeds – but which could be mistaken for peanut butter by anyone who was not paying attention. Brilliant for nut-allergic kids wanting a ‘peanut butter sandwich’ in their lunch pack like all their friends. Eskal’s peanut-free satay sauce was also very acceptable – although Foodsmatter’s Cressida got rather carried away and made some seriously yummy satay sauce from the ‘butter’.
We also got a great hamper of goodies from new company, Foodamentalists – breads, rolls, muffins, quiches, pork pie and biscotti. We particularly like their bread and their quiches – do check them out.
And even though we are only on Tuesday, this week has already added several inches to our waists: the Pinkest Witch cup cakes, BIlly Goat Stuff ginger truffles and chocolates, Allergy Essex new additive and colouring-free sweeties form the USA and the most amazing cake from Especially Delicious…. Reports on all will appear in our New Product Reviews very soon – if we can drag ourselves from the dining room table to write the reviews!!
