Because it is the weekend and because my phone is still feeling somewhat constipated (going in for treatment tomorrow…) here are just few snapshots from a sunny Saturday afternoon.
This was on my way down what I regard as my personal path from Hampstead Lane onto the heath. At the bottom just before you emerge onto the heath there is a mega-soggy mud patch/pond which is positively jammed full of iris. I was hoping that they were all going to come out into a blaze of yellow but I have a feeling that they may be intending to be a bit more subtle. But they are still pretty.
The area around the newly re-opened Kenwood was pretty much rammed but the view down over London from the knoll just in front of the stable block was pretty spectacular. You can see why the Earl of Mansfield was so enthusiastic about his fine house at Kenwood with views down over the city of London – and why he was so keen to prevent any developments which might impinge on his view.
The super keen eyed among you may just be able to make out the Shard, the London Eye and the latest truly hideous and totally unimaginative tower block in the city. (Now that we have all taken to virtual communication and office blocks have become redundant what will become of all those massive office blocks in the city? A quick conversion to much needed housing units would seem a useful way to go…)
Anyhow, I headed down the hill and just stopped off by the stock pond because the reflections were so stunning.
Because there was a very slight breeze there was the tiniest ripply on the pond. Instead of getting then usual mirror reflection it looked as though the pond trees had been made of thousands of little tree coloured Lego bricks none of which had quite fitted together perfectly. It was so lovely that I coaxed my phone into a short video…..
