Going for a walk….

04/06/2020 //  by Michelle//  15 Comments

A week or so ago, when I was just posting still images, Micki Rose asked why I was not making videos of my trips to the heath ‘so that we can go for a walk with you’? At the time I had not actually thought of being so daring – and then, when I thought I would give it a whirl, I decided that you needed ‘action movies’….

But as I was stomping across the heath this morning it occurred to me that actually Micki was probably right. You don’t necessarily need action – you just need to pretend that you are going for a walk across the heath! I’m afraid that when I decided this I was walking through a relatively open and therefore not that exciting bit of heath – but there were quite a lot of birds – and you can always stop it!

Anyhow, first of all, my anenome patch on the way down the path to the heath. And I think that everything was looking especially good this morning as it actually rained, if only briefly, so all the buds and blooms had had a bit of a wash.

(If you want to see the video you will need to click onto the blog, not read it in the email notification, as the email does not include the video.)

And then some buds just about to burst on this tree branch…

…and some ???? blossom in full flower…

I do depend on my readers to enlarge my horticultural knowledge here. I am also hoping that Tom Ogren in California, who, apart from being a the world’s foremost plant allergy expert, is a keen birder, is going to identify some of our birds for us…..

And now for your walk:

I think I missed something…was expecting a video. NO? I did recognize the white wild plum blossoms on the bottom photo! Everyone stay safe, isolate, and like our wonderful Michelle, if you can, do go for a good long walk every day. Stay in shape to help beat this mean corona virus.

Ah, now I see this: (If you want to see the video you will need to click onto the blog, not read it in the email notification, as the email does not include the video.) Will give that a try!

Yes, these videos are fun! And that does sound like your wonderful English Blackbird singing. (Our blackbirds in the US don’t sign much at all, alas).

Lovely Michelle, it is great to see parts of London that I don’t get to see. I believe that is a cherry blossom but Icouldnt tell you which variety x

Ours do seem super vocal right now – listened to one in the garden the other day and he would have deafened you!!!

Oh good Emma – I’ll keep on walking then!!! You may be right a bout the cherry although it was quite wild – and do cherries self plant in the wild?

Yes there is a wild cherry in the UK, I may stand corrected but I believe it is prunus avium. It is the pendulous way that the 5 petalled blossom was hanging in clusters as well as the shape of the shiny new leaves that indictaed cherry.

That’s great, thank you. I liked the birdies singing! They are really loud around here too. Just been for my walk in the Nature Reserve next to us, but bit busier with people than yours. I reckon we’ll value these ‘walking’ videos even more if we ever go into full lockdown!

Well, entirely your idea Micki – so I am glad you like them. Aren’t the birds brilliant!!!

Love this, going for a walk with you. Been doing the same on insta live and people so strangely seem to enjoy it. How beautiful it is where you live

Well, my thinking was that those who can’t get out for whatever reason might enjoy it – unless of course it sent them wild with envy….. Yes, I am SO lucky to be right on the heath…
