I had seriously intended to tell you about the viaduct and the viaduct pond tonight but, somehow, the day ran away with me again so….

A quick gallop round my end of the heath this evening first of all revealed how parched the ground is. This looks more like August than mid May.

And then, as I approached the climbing tree, I saw that someone else was enjoying, and even recording, the evening view.

and if you want to now more about him…

And speaking of art – I did not see this tree tonight as it is over in Springett’s Wood – and I have no idea whether it is an official art installation or whether it is an independent offering, but it is a fun thing to do with one of the heath’s dead trees.

And now, all you experts out there. Alex sent me these images tonight in the trusting faith that I would know what all that cottony fluff stuff is – but I don’t…. Anyone got any suggestions? Apparently growing in the tree….

and as a delicate fluffy white carpet on the ground…..

My daily blog now has an Instagram account! WalksonHampsteadHeath – the idea being to widen the circle of people who might enjoy a daily ramble across the heath. Please follow us and pass on the news!!
