Over the other side of the heath, on Sandy Heath, there is an amazing pond. (For more of the fascinating history of Sandy Heath see this post.) It is large, flat, shallow, surrounded by trees and inhabited by several colonies of ducks – both ‘ordinary’ ducks and the wonderful mandarin ducks. But it is also dog heaven – wide, flat ‘shore’ and nice shallow water – and they take full advantage.
A few more ducks – and that golden retriever again.
And then on the way back up the hill, this lovely golden vision through the branches.
And the three hundred year old Sandy Heath oaks on their mounds of sand.
