Sandy Heath, down the northern slopes of the ridge that runs from, Highgate to Hampstead, is one of my favourite parts of the heath. Wooded, but not too densely, steeply sloping down toward the Heath Extension, with many towering trees, looking especially architectural and splendid at this time of year.
And one of my favourite spots on Sandy Heath is the large shallow pond which houses several colonies of ducks and where the half sunken logs look like a family of alligators snoozing in the mud.
However, before you get to hear about the pond you have to get there…
So the first walk, which is about 20 minutes long, will talk you along the south side of the ridge above Kenwood House, across Spaniards Lane and down through Sandy Heath to the pond. Please remember that this is a video which is intended to be listened to rather than watched so there could be some very dodgy camera work.
The second video (only 4 minutes worth) takes us down through Kenwood Meadows, follows the multiple and various dogs that were gathered there and leads me back towards the Cheese Toastie van that I had seen on my way past Kenwood House.
The final video finds me in the cheese toastie queue. I thought it might be quite fun just to eavesdrop on other queuers.
Thank you for this lovely walk Michelle. I loved it. Makes me want to be on the heath again. I have some lovely memories of my last visit, navigating through them to get to your house. A rather lovely commute.
Please come again Ruth – about the only thing we are now allowed to do!!!
