As many of you will know, on August 24th, James, my partner for over 50 years, died suddenly after a very short and totally unexpected illness.
If you had come across James it would either have been as the FoodsMatter/FreeFrom Awards webmaster and IT guru or as our video cameraman. But he had another life – as an extremely distinguished classical record producer.
On November 2nd we held a celebration of James the record producer, and the James that that we knew and loved, at LSO St Lukes in the City of London.
The evening included personal memories from our son Jonathan, James’ brother David and me – and tributes from professional colleagues including Bernard Haitink, Valery Gergiev, Lady Valerie Solti, Kathryn McDowell and Gareth Davies from the LSO, Thomas Ades, Joanna MacGregor, Olive Simpson and Bob Woods and Jack Renner of Telarc. It also included Bach and Messiaen from Joanna and violinist, Madeleine Mitchell, Mozart from Gareth and an LSO flute Quartet, and an extract from Beethoven’s Pastoral from Thomas Ades and the Britten Sinfonia.
