Dear All….. A walk in Belsize Park today but first…..
If you enjoy our daily wanders round heath and you think that anyone you know who is currently hemmed in by their four walls – and has access to the internet – might enjoy them too, please forward them a link. Nice to share Hampstead Heath as widely as we can.
So, as I was in Belsize Park today I thought I would pick up on Emma’s suggestion that yesterday’s ‘secret garden’ might actually be a forest school and show you the one in Belsize Woods.

If you are now intrigued by the Isokon, see their site here or see this post about the installation of the blue plaque in 2018 – complete with a cupcake version of it!!
On my walk back, for the first time saw police vans on the heath although they did not seem to be doing much and when they stopped I think it was only to let some kids across the path. Two also seemed a bit excessive for the law abiding burghers of Hampstead and Highgate!
The rest of my route took my down the path beside the Ladies Pond (of which more another time) where the bluebells are just breaking into bloom –
and then on up the path to Highgate….

As a new visitor to your page and amidst all the awfulness that churns away in the background, it’s a delight to be invited along with you on your walks, talks and blog posts.
I lived in London for 15 years, mostly central but I had a good long spell in leafy Highgate, (Jackson’s Lane) and enjoyed the Heath and it’s surrounds very much. Since leaving London in 2010 I’ve not been back so, finding you and your charming blog posts is a most pleasant turn of good fortune for me.
AND, as a life-long animal lover with no garden and no way to have pets here, I do so love seeing your cats!

How wonderful, thank you Michelle. I can really imagine tiny tots enjoying that forest school. My son, Joey, has been lucky enough to partake in Forest School since he was 2 years old. It is incredible what they acheive, finding materials for den building, learning how to respect camp fires, learning about plants and animals and climbing over, under and through.

They are so sweet, Emma, aren’t they. I often used to walk through the wood on my way to get the paper in the morning when they were all piling in, all squeaking with excitement.

Delighted that you have joined us Chris. I feel SO fortunate to live so close to the heath that I am really anxious to spread the joy as widely as I can!! So do please tell anyone else you think might enjoy our walks.
If you have an idle hour – and who doesn’t right now? – there is a page on the blog called Michelle’s cats which charts a number of their activities over the years.
